Sweetness Desserts in Waco: A Must-Visit

I stumbled upon Sweetness Desserts in Waco kind of by accident… I was about to make the drive from Waco to Austin, I had already had a big lunch, and I desperately wanted something sweet to munch on. Since I had already been to Silos Baking Co. and wanted to check out a different bakery, I just googled what was near me. Sweetness Bakery popped up on my map, and I’m so glad it did.

$10,000 Of Gifts To Open This Bakery

Ok, I love the story on the Sweetness Desserts on their website! The owner, Laura Summersett, was attending church on Sunday morning when the pastor called her up to the front and gave her $60 to invest in her bakery dream, just as a way to say “this church believes  in you and thinks you should follow your dreams.”  By the end of the day, the congregation had given her $10,000 to invest in her bakery!

Sweetness Desserts is now a staple in Waco. It’s primarily a wedding cake bakery (just check out the gallery - gorgeous!) but they also have cupcakes and cookies available for customers who just want to walk in and order something from the pastry case.

The Interior Of The Dessert Shop Is Adorable

This is one of the cutest little dessert shops in Waco! The floor is a timeless black-and-white checkered pattern, and the walls are light pink…almost like a frosting color. There are white tablecloths on the round tables and formal curtains hanging in the windows to evoke a wedding-like feel.

(It’s clearly made to help brides and grooms be able to envision their big day while they think about their dream cake!)

The exterior is pretty basic. This bakery is in a strip mall in Waco, so it’s nothing flashy from the outside. Which is why you might not notice on a drive-by…and I’m here to bring some attention to it!

Everything I Tried At Sweetness Desserts

The cupcakes are the star of the show, so I knew I needed to grab one of those. They have plenty of yummy flavors, but I followed my heart and got a Coffee Toffee Caramel Crunch: a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream, topped with toffee, caramel, and pecans. It’s incredibly decadent, both creamy and crunchy, and something I can’t wait to order again.

I love buying a classic chocolate chip cookie at any bakery I visit, just because I think it’s a good tell as to the quality of the baking. This one tastes like a homemade cookie that would come out of my mom’s kitchen. It’s not overly large or crazy…just a good, classic chocolate chip. It had a hearty taste to it, almost like it had cornflakes in it or something. I’m not sure what it was, but it was scrumptious and you’d better believe I snacked on that cookie all the way on my 2-hour drive across Texas.

And then I decided to get a basic sugar cookie, which isn’t something I normally order but I’m SO glad I did. It was perfectly soft, chewy, and buttery. There wasn’t any frosting on it, but it didn’t need it. Sugar cookie of my dreams!

A Must-Visit Dessert Shop in Waco

Although it’s a bit out of the way from the touristy part of Waco near Magnolia Market, Sweetness Desserts is a phenomenal, locally-owned bakery in Waco that’s 100% worth a visit. Whether you need a 6-pack of cupcakes to bring to an upcoming event, a formal cake for a special occasion, or you just have a sweet tooth like me and you want to buy a couple chocolate chip cookies, I can’t recommend Sweetness Desserts enough!
