The Best Pizza Spots in Waco, TX

1. Slow Rise Slice House

Slow Rise Slice House pizza

Slow Rise is consistently good when you just need a basic, NY-style pizza that can feed a crowd. The pizza is made with authentic NY-style “slow rise” fermented crust and a bunch of tasty toppings that range from classic pepperoni to the more elaborate “Texas Gold” pie with a honey mustard base and fried chicken and bacon on top.

The E MLK location on the Brazos River is an excellent restaurant for big groups in Waco. It can seat hundreds of people, and it has a bunch of long picnic tables both indoors and out. But the Woodway location serves the same delicious, foldable slices of pizza.

When your pizza craving hits ya hard, Slow Rise Slice House is always a good idea!

2. Southern Roots Brewing Co.

Southern Roots Brewing pizza

I walked into Southern Roots Brewing Co for the first time with the intention of just getting a pint of beer, and then wafts of freshly made pizza hit my nose and I quickly decided that I needed to order some food, too. And good thing, because the pizza at Southern Roots Brewing is some of the very best in Waco!

They serve 10” or 15” traditional pizzas. I happen to believe that a simple pepperoni pizza is the best way to judge a pizzeria, so I always like to start with that one. But they also have pretty creative pizza toppings with equally interesting names. The “Pig and the Preacher'' is topped with marinara sauce, sliced hard salami, pulled pork, bacon, sausage, cup and char pepperoni, and Honey Hog seasoning from Meat Church BBQ. And if you want something even more off the beaten path, try the “El Diablo '' - it has a cream cheese base with bacon and jalapeno on top!

Southern Roots is one of the best pizza spots in Waco…but it definitely doesn’t hurt that they also make and serve craft beer that you can pair with your pie. Beer + pizza go together like peanut butter and jelly. They’re just meant to be.

3. Moroso

Moroso Wood Fired Pizza

When you want a really authentic, small, wood-fired Neapolitan pizza in Waco, reserve a table at Moroso Italian Ristorante. This isn’t a casual pizza + beer hangout spot like the first two places on this list. Rather, it’s a dinner-only Italian restaurant with excellent pasta, Italian appetizers, and the best Neapolitan pizza in Waco.

They were previously known as “Moroso Wood-Fired Pizzeria,” but they’ve rebranded to a name that more accurately reflects the depth of their menu. Meaning, even if you come here for the pizza, be sure to try some of their other delicious menu items like their burrata, wood-grilled bread, handmade pasta, and family recipe meatballs.

But…also get the pizza. It’s small, flash-charred in the wood-fired Italian oven, and topped with authentic Italian ingredients. I’m a bit of a purist when it comes to Neapolitan pizza and I like to get classic margherita pies or maybe some sort of Italian sausage topping. But venture through the (very large!) menu and find the pizza toppings that speak to you. There are a lot of great options at Moroso!

4. Shorty’s Pizza

Shorty's Pizza Waco

Shorty’s Pizza isn’t incredibly memorable, but they do have a great family-friendly atmosphere and decently priced pizzas. I mean, pizza is pizza and it’s pretty hard to not love it…so you’ll probably enjoy this place! But it’s not necessarily going down in history as one of the best pizza restaurants of your life.

Shorty’s is the type of place you go for pizza in Waco when you want a really big pepperoni pizza you can share with the family, a pitcher of beer you can share with your friends, and an easy-going patio where you can hang out. That’s about it!
