Whizzbang’s Burgers in Waco, TX
There are three locations of Whizzbang’s in Waco, and this post is about the Union Hall location. It’s smaller, more centrally located, and a bit zippier than the original brick-and-mortar…but it still serves those famous old-timey burgers that have often been called the best burgers in Waco since 1977.
Whizzbang’s Burgers
Technically this restaurant is called Captain Billy Whizzbang’s Burgers, and the thing you should know about this place is that they truly pride themselves on creating some of the best burgers in Waco, Texas.
The meat is fresh, never frozen which makes a huge difference in taste compared to fast food joints that are serving dull, lackluster patties.
Hand-pressed and double-ground meat so that every patty is the right size and shape.
All sorts of custom flavor toppings and variations to try, which is why they make every burger order custom.
The Burgers At Whizzbang’s
These burgers are those big, sloppy, I-need-a-full-stack-of-napkins-to-eat-this type of cheeseburger that just tastes so good.
They’re served with mayo or mustard, lettuce, onion, and pickles. Something I absolutely love about these burgers, besides the perfectly charred and flavorful smash-burger style patty, is that they char the bottom of the bun just a little bit. This helps hold the burger together and contain all the juicy goodness. 10/10 burger, here!! For a fast-casual burger joint, this is about as good as you can get.
You can “whizz-bang” any burger, which means they’ll top the burger patty with a mix of melted shredded cheese and bacon pieces, which is just as decadent as it seems. If it’s your first time eating at Whizzbang’s, I highly recommend whizzbanging it.
The other options include adding cheese, jalapenos, or bacon on your single or double burger.
Not into beef burgers? They also have the popular whizz-pig, which is a mix of 50/50 ground bacon and ground beef, the Beyond Beef burger, a plant-based patty that’s made to taste like beef, and a turkey burger for folks who want to stay away from red meat.
Sides include fries (yep, you can “whizz-bang” your fries, too!), onion rings, and tots. It’s a simple menu, which is why I think they’ve been able to keep the quality up for all of these years.
The fries are those irresistibly crispy-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside, perfectly cooked little morsels that make me wonder why I don’t just eat fried potatoes for every meal of my life. so good.
