4. Story Time at Fabled Book Shop

Story time at Fabled Book Shop

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of this local Waco bookstore, and I’m an even bigger fan of their weekly story time. And January happens to be the coziest time to snuggle up with your little ones and enjoy story time. The story time at Fabled Book Shop is every Wednesday at 10:30 am.

Be sure to get there early to stop by the café and get a mocha or hot chocolate to enjoy before picking out some books to purchase and bring home.

6. Hiking in Cameron Park

Hiking at Cameron Park

You’ve likely seen “hiking in Cameron Park” on every list of the best things to do in Waco, but I’m here to tell you that January is the best hiking month in Waco! It’s crisp, cold, and refreshing out there, and if you find a sunny day in January (there are lots of them!) there’s no better time to enjoy the dozens of miles of hiking trails in the crown jewel of Waco: Cameron Park.

7. Balcones Distillery Tour

Tour Balcones

Cold day? Drink some whisky! And don’t just drink whisky go ahead and learn all about it, too. Balcones Distillery is an award-winning whisky distillery located in the heart of downtown Waco. They offer daily tours (I absolutely loved it) that take about an hour and involve an in-depth tasting at the end of a few of their best selling whiskies.

Don’t want to mess with the tour and just want to get drunk? Go directly to their tasting room! No reservations necessary.

8. Lake Waco Wetlands

Lake Waco Wetlands

The Lake Waco Wetlands are one of my favorite places to go in Waco in January because, like Cameron Park, they’re just so beautiful on a brisk, cold winter day. And since January is typically pretty dry, the Wetlands aren’t going to be all swampy and muddy like they will be a few months later in the spring. Learn all about the Lake Waco Wetlands here, and then pack your hiking shoes and some snacks and get out there!

PIVOVAR HOTEL

I did a winter staycation at Pivovar, and it was so cozy! They have a beer spa, an amazing brewery with authentic Czech lager and hearty food, and a beautiful hotel with rooms overlooking the Magnolia silos. 10/10 recommend this as a fun thing to do in Waco during the month of January.
