The Best Bakeries In Waco, TX
When someone asks about the best bakeries in Waco, I assume they’re wanting baked goods like bread, burger buns, and whole cakes (rather than cupcakes and cookies.) Yes, there are lots of great places to get desserts in Waco, and I’ll include a few of them here that have pretty robust baking programs. But for this blog post, I’m mostly going to focus on where to find the best bakeries in Waco for baked breads, whole cakes and pies, and more legitimate “baking” programs.

The Best Bakeries In Waco
1. Homestead Market
When you want a really good loaf of bread in Waco, my highest recommendation is Homestead Market. This is the grocery store located at Homestead Heritage, which I’ve covered in depth several times on this blog (read about it here.) And while it is a grocery store, they stock the shelves with lots of items that are made onsite.

The bakery at Homestead Heritage is phenomenal! They use incredibly healthy whole grains that they grind on their own water-powered gristmill right here in Waco. If you’ve ever dined at Cafe Homestead, you know that the bread they place on your table as an appetizer is one of the best parts of the whole meal…and you can actually buy that bread right here at Homestead Market.
In addition to whole loaves and sliced bread (sourdough, whole grain, etc.) you can also get French baguettes, homemade hot dog and hamburger buns, and other retreats like scones and muffins.

2. For Keeps Café and Bakery
For Keeps is one of the prettiest coffee shops in Waco, but they’re also a full-blown bakery. They have some of the best baked goods in town. They definitely gear toward sweet stuff (try their cinnamon bun!) but they occasionally have savory items like bagels, pesto danish, and biscuits.
If you want a dozen bakery items, just order a day ahead and pick up at the bakery.

3. Collin Street Bakery
Collin Street Bakery has been baking in Texas since 1896, and they have one of the most robust bakery menus in Waco. You’ve most likely seen billboards for this bakery while driving on I-35. They like to advertise their fruitcakes, which are their signature item…and while fruitcakes are historically “meh,” these beauties are actually scrumptious.

But in addition to fruitcakes, they offer savory breads, sweet breads, hamburger and hotdog buns, pastries, muffins, brownies, cookies, and more.

4. Jimenez Bakery
Jimenez Bakery specializes in Mexican breads and sweets. If you want to get a big bag of pan dulce for a very low cost, this is the place!
They constantly have trays of brightly colored treats coming out of the bakery, and it’s really hard to buy just a few. So this is an excellent place to get a big assortment of sweets to share with the office or the family.

5. Baked Bliss - GF Available
Baked Bliss is one of my all-time favorite Waco bakeries for their cupcakes and cookies, but they also sell full cakes and full pies. One of the best parts about Baked Bliss is their gluten free program, which is pretty much everything on the regular menu, just gluten free!

Baked Bliss is a full bakery, but you order from a little food truck parked out front. I’ve found that the ordering process is a bit wonky - sometimes there’s no one in the truck to take orders so you have to wait around a bit, or you order and then they have to walk over to the bakery and bring it back to the food truck to package it up. There might be a bit of waiting involved, but it’s 100% worth it for these delicious baked goods.
