Songbird: Waco’s Prettiest Wine Bar
If you’ve ever found yourself wandering around Waco, Texas, and looking for the perfect spot to relax with a glass of wine, I’ve got a hidden gem for you: Songbird Wine Bar. I heard about this place not too long ago when I started noticing Hotel Herringbone on Instagram, so I immediately checked it out - and it’s become one of my favorite little spots in town! Songbird Wine Bar should definitely be on your radar.

A Hidden Gem in Downtown Waco
Located in the heart of downtown Waco on the ground floor of Hotel Herringbone, Songbird Wine Bar is tucked into the courtyard. You’ll have to walk into the hotel’s courtyard to find it (it’s not visible from the street), so it kind of feels like a retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the Magnolia Market crowds. Btw, it’s just close enough to the popular Magnolia Market to make it an easy stop after a day of shopping or sightseeing, but it also feels like a bit of a hidden gem, making it the perfect spot to relax and unwind.
A Wine List That’s Perfect for All Tastes
As a wine lover, one of the main things I look for when I’m choosing a wine bar is the quality and variety of their wine list, and Songbird delivers!
Their wine list is diverse and NICELY curated, featuring everything from popular classic wines to lesser-known options like natural wines and orange wines.
Whether you’re into reds, whites, rosés, or even sparkling wines, there’s something for every palate. They have a few options available by the glass, and then a more robust option of bottles in the wine fridge.
What I really appreciate about Songbird’s wine list is that it’s not just a bunch of random bottles slapped together. The team clearly knows their stuff and puts a lot of thought into what they offer. I’m always down to try something new, and I’ve had the pleasure of discovering some amazing wines that I wouldn’t have tried elsewhere.
The staff is trained, too, and if you’re not sure what to order, they’re more than happy to offer recommendations based on your preferences.
If you’re into red wines, the list includes a variety of options, from bold cabernets to lighter pinots. For white wine lovers, you’ll find a selection of crisp, refreshing whites that pair perfectly with their grab-and-go snacks. And if you’re in the mood for something more adventurous, Songbird often rotates wines, giving you the chance to explore new vintages and unique varietals. It’s always fun to go in and ask about what’s new!
Food That Pairs Perfectly with Every Glass
What’s even better than a great glass of wine? Pairing it with delicious food, of course! Songbird doesn’t just offer wine—they also have a fantastic menu that perfectly complements their drink offerings. They have a lot of bougie grab-and-go options, like marinated feta, toasted orzo salad, little chocolate covered nuts, fancy crackers, and tiny jars of expensive honey.
If you’re going to stay and enjoy some food and wine, one of my favorite things to order at Songbird is their charcuterie board. It’s the ideal wine companion, featuring a selection of cheeses, cured meats, olives, and spreads. It’s a pretty big board, so it’s perfect for sharing with friends.
The Atmosphere: Bright and Unpretentious
What really makes Songbird stand out is the vibe. It’s a small space, but the outdoor area is where it really shines.
Like I mentioned, Songbird is located in the Hotel Herringbone plaza. So after you order your wine and charcuterie, you can find a spot to sit outdoors. It’s a gorgeous space, beautifully designed with tables, plants, and lighting.
There’s a kids play area in the corner where I’ve let my little ones enjoy some play time while I catch up with a friend. It’s weird to say that this is a kid-friendly wine bar in Waco, but that’s exactly what it is! (They offer a few N/A beverages like sparkling waters and juice that kids can enjoy.)
They also host live outdoor music events from time to time, which adds another layer of charm. They typically have singer-songwriters, so the music is never overwhelming but adds just the right touch to the overall experience. Think: acoustic guitar playing softly in the background while you enjoy a glass of chardonnay. It's the kind of ambiance that makes you want to kick back and enjoy your time there, without feeling rushed.
I’ve spent evenings there catching up with friends, and I’ve also gone by myself when I just wanted to enjoy a quiet glass of wine. The atmosphere is versatile—equally suited for a lively gathering or a peaceful solo moment.
Wine Club
Another reason I love Songbird is their wine club! . If you’re into trying new types of wine (and who isn’t?), you’re in for a treat. They offer a monthly wine club where, for $75, you get three bottles of wine: red only, sparkling only, or a trio of red/white/sparkling.
By joining the wine club, you not only get to be introduced to a new and exciting selection of wine every month. You also get special member discounts and invitations to special events like exclusive wine tastings.
Why You Should Visit
I’ve checked out nearly every wine bar in Waco, and what sets Songbird Wine Bar apart is the modern, curated feel. It’s not just about the wine or the food—it’s about how they all come together to create a GORGEOUS indoor/outdoor space that you’re going to want to Instagram (or at least mentally photograph!). Waco is certainly taking huge strides forward in exciting culinary offerings, but it’s still pretty rare to find beautiful, modern spaces like this in Waco. Which is why I really hope you’ll visit it!
