Heritage Creamery Ice Cream in Waco
One of my favorite (and one of the most popular!) little ice cream spots in Waco is called Heritage Creamery. If you’ve ever driven through Baylor University campus or stopped by Common Grounds coffee shop, you’ve seen Heritage. It’s an adorable blue bungalow building that’s been renovated into the most adorable ice cream shop, and it’s well worth a visit on a hot Texas day.

Heritage Creamery’s History
Heritage Creamery is actually owned by the same couple (Blake and Kimberly Blatson) who own Common Grounds next door. This ice cream shop started as a weekly staple at the Waco Farmers Market before opening. When this space beside their coffee shop became available, Blake and Kimberly “scooped” it up (haha) and renovated it into the darling ice cream shop it is now.

Quality Ingredients, Quality Ice Cream
This is definitely a “boutique ice cream” experience, with excellent ice cream served in small serving sizes.
Heritage uses Mil-King dairy, which is widely regarded as one of the best dairy farms in Texas. Starting with that exceptional milk, they use fresh ingredients like fresh fruit, artisan chocolate, local Balcones whisky, and real vanilla beans to make their ice cream flavors pop.
The result? Well, let’s just say that I instantly regretted my decision in only getting one scoop of salty vanilla bean. Yum.

The Menu: Cookies and Ice Cream
Heritage is called a “creamery” but it’s actually a bakery, too! Blake’s father had a famous chocolate chip cookie recipe. He sadly died before this awesome shop opened, but they honor his legacy by incorporating lots of cookies into the menu.
Choose from cookie ice cream sandwiches where you can pick a cookie flavor and an ice cream flavor and they’ll turn it into a sweet sandwich.
Or just order a dozen chocolate chip cookies to bring home and enjoy with the family. They also have snickerdoodles.
For the ice cream, order a scoop, or ask them to make it into a shake or a float. And if you walk in the door to Heritage Creamery and notice that tantalizing vanilla smell, it’s from the housemade waffle cones, which are handmade from scratch from a vanilla/cinnamon batter. I highly recommend getting a cone to hold your scoop (or three) of ice cream.

Friendly Scoopers, Lots Of Samples!
The ice cream scoopers at Heritage are super friendly, offering pretty much as many samples of the ice cream flavors as you want before you commit to your choice. I’m that person who wants to try about 5 little bites before I decide what I want, so I love it when the person behind the counter isn’t stingy with samples.

If you LOVE what you tried, you can also ask them to pack a pint of ice cream that you can bring home. Because you know what’s even better than a scoop of ice cream? An entire pint that you can share with someone you love.
