Best Healthy Restaurants In Waco

1. Harvest on 25th

Harvest on 25th

Not only one of the best healthy restaurants, but just one of the BEST restaurants, period! Harvest on 25th is a counter-service restaurant that uses fresh, hearty ingredients to make a wide variety of menu options for breakfast and lunch. I love their cauliflower rice bowl, their delicious breakfast tacos, and their scrumptious sandwiches. Lots of their menu items are customizable, so you can easily eat vegetarian and pile on the veggies… or choose to add extra meat for more protein!

2. Revival Eastside Eatery

This (somewhat) newbie to the Waco dining scene is an absolute godsend when it comes to healthy eating in Waco. Their menu is packed with big hearty salads that are absolutely scrumptious with some added chicken or steak. I’m a fan of the Eve Salad, made with roasted sweet potatoes, roasted brussel sprouts, apple, dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds, queso fresco, kale, and apple cider vinaigrette. (I like to add chicken!) or get any of their yummy sandwiches, and swap out the side of fries with a side salad or a bowl of soup.

3. Alpha & Omega Grill and Bakery

Alpha and Omega Grill Waco

I’m absolutely obsessed with this Mediterranean grill in historic downtown Waco! Like all Mediterranean-American restaurants, you can find both healthy and indulgent items on the menu. So, if you’re looking for healthy food in Waco, try the combo plate that comes with a few little dips and salads of your choice, like fresh hummus, olive spread, roasted eggplant, and a plate of veggies and pita for dipping. It’s a great spot for a light and fresh lunch in downtown Waco.

4. Cafe Homestead

Cafe Homestead

Café Homestead is the on-site restaurant at Homestead Heritage, the agrarian- and craft-based Christian community and homestead just north of Waco. The café is a phenomenal restaurant because they grow and raise a lot of their own food on site. The fresh bread that’s brought to your table when you sit down? It’s made from whole grain flour that’s milled right there on the homestead. The chickens are raised there, and lots of the veggies are grown on site. Try the Brazos Valley Salad, which is served with grilled chicken, fresh berries, toasted pecans, and their own Brazos Valley truffle gold cheese (made on site at the creamery!) all on fresh romaine and served with a vinaigrette.

5. Milo

Milo

This adorably modern southern-inspired restaurant has brunch, dinner, and cocktails…and while that might not scream “healthy” to you, just take a look at all of their amazing salads on the menu! They source locally and provide farm-fresh greens, yummy protein toppings, and plenty of customizable options to make everyone happy. If you’re trying to avoid fried chicken and burgers but you still want a nice restaurant experience, go get the Strawberry Walnut Salad at Milo and pair it with sparkling water.

6. J-Petal And Poke

J-Petal And Poke

The signature poke bowls at J-Petal are amazing for those days when you want something light and fresh and healthy for lunch in Waco! Swap out the rice base for romaine lettuce or spring mix, and then add your choice of protein topper. I love raw tuna for extra protein! If you’re  not into raw fish on your poke bowls, you can also choose from cooked proteins like grilled chicken or steak, shrimp, or tofu. {Photo: Jeff R., Yelp}

7. Fuel UP Waco

Fuel UP

This meal prep service is so incredible! For a fixed rate you get a week of pre-made meals. They’re all pre-portioned, already cooked, and macro friendly with all of the dietary information clearly listed. This is a great option if you live in Waco and you want to eat healthier and plan ahead! The food is made in a commercial certified kitchen in Waco, and approved by the board of health.

The only downside to Fuel UP is that it’s not a drop-in kitchen. You’ll have to plan ahead, place your order and pick it up ahead of time. So if you need a healthy place to eat literally right now, go to the map at the top of this post and find a healthy Waco restaurant near you. {Photo: Fuel UP Facebook}

8. Waco Farmers Market

Waco Farmers Market

ICYMI there’s an absolutely phenomenal farmers market in downtown Waco every single Saturday morning. There are dozens of booths that are packed full of fresh local veggies, produce, bread, jams, nut butters, snacks, and other healthy products. I’m always shocked at how many people have never been to a farmers market, especially when there’s such a great one right here in Waco! If you’re trying to eat healthier this year, make a visit to the Waco Farmers Market part of your weekly errands…please!

9. Magnolia Table

Magnolia Table

Yep, they have biscuits and gravy and crunchy French toast…but Chip and Joanna’s restaurant also serves amazing salads! The cobb salad is excellent if you’re eating keto, because it’s packed with lots of protein and fats like peppered bacon, hard boiled eggs, chicken tenders, cheddar cheese, and ranch dressing. And be sure to check out their seasonal rotating salads, too!
